LearnServe Alum Noah Dyson Elected Vice President of Elon Class of 2021
LearnServe Alum Noah Dyson (Fellows ’16, Incubator ’17) is a passionate advocate for increasing access to mental health resources and encouraging engaged discussion of inclusivity. Recently elected Vice President of the Elon University Class of 2021, we interviewed Noah about his upcoming term and platform for change.
Tell us about your campaign platform – what are your major goals?
My platform is as follows.
Be a voice for the Class of 2021 by expressing our wants and needs to be
successful, whether mental, academic, or social.Work with administration and mental health organizations to provide more
resources to better our mental health.Encourage participation in events that promote open-mindedness, inclusivity, and
diversity.
What social challenges are you most eager to tackle on campus?
I am most eager to work with mental health organizations, counseling services, and the
Student Government Association to address the mental health needs on campus. Also, I
hope to tackle the lack of inclusion for marginalized communities through education, and to
create spaces where we can have much needed uncomfortable conversations on bias,
prejudice and privilege. The administration has done a great job of addressing these things,
but there is always room for improvement, and this is a way for me to do my part.
Did your experiences in LearnServe help shape your desire to pursue office?
I probably wouldn’t be where I am today without LearnServe. LearnServe created an
environment in which I discovered my passion to help young people develop habits of
mental wellness. I’m still doing mental health work while at Elon. LearnServe connected
me to Operation Understanding DC, an organization that gave me the skills to lead a
facilitated discussion on unconscious bias with my class mates. LearnServe taught me
how to successfully address a problem in my community, wherever that community is,
and at the end of the day my strongest desire is to make the world a better place.
