LearnServe South Africa 2019, Day 12: I Am We Are Day

Today was an amazing day, not just because my team and I won the design challenge, but because of the bonds and amazing talks both with my LearnServe peers and with the I AM WE ARE “ambassadors.” We started the day off with breakfast. The breakfast was good especially the orange juice. When we arrived at the Bafokeng Community Center Meisha, the leader of I AM WE ARE started off by showing us her future (fingers crossed) community center that she aspires to purchase for her youth ambassadors.

Speaking with Miesha about her future plans for the I AM WE ARE made me really feel hopeful for the youth of the Bafokeng community. After Miesha told us about her dreams and the layout of her future building, she broke us up into groups and we began the competition to create the blueprint design of her building. My group consisted of two of my LearnServe peers Destiny and Nedim, myself, and three I AM WE ARE folks named Petro, Milisa, and Moses. Together we worked to design the future I AM WE ARE facility.

Our group had our misconceptions but it all came together at the end. My role in the group was to design the athletic field -- I named it Peyton’s Athletics Center just to give it a personal touch. To sum up this day it was an amazing experience, and I loved it.
